Lives & works in Scotland
My art is inspired by landscape, changing terrain and aerial imagery. I try to recreate glacial landscapes, glistening rivers and mineral interactions within the pigments and textures of my material. My work is the macroscopic world shrunk to the microscopic reactions created within the ‘petri-dish’ of my canvas or board.

This work is greatly informed by my career as an air ambulance pilot, flying mostly around the Scottish islands. I have been inspired by the changing forms of clouds and light and the notion of traveling through the medium of air and gas. The way the change in air density feels, the tone of the engine and the static buzz of the radios I feel in my headset. I have flown over turquoise glacial lakes in the Canadian Rockies and golden harvest prairies at sunset.

My recent paintings take their titles from waypoints (abstract positions used in radio navigation, defined by beacons on different frequencies.) To me, these paintings depict these points. I am starting to incorporate intricate patterns into my new paintings; inspired by the way humans mark the landscape.
